Where the RC4 is built for combined earth-to-rock drilling, the PM-HX-3 pilot uses MFT tungsten geometry to match: fracturing harder material at hole entry while providing clean center cutting in soft ground. The PM-HX-3 pilot completes this capability at the center-most point of the hole — where the pilot must fracture harder material first before the taper teeth engage the surrounding material.
• Hex base pilot uses six-sided engagement for greater torque transfer than square in high-RPM taper tooth drilling — the hexagonal base distributes high-RPM rotational load across six engagement faces. In rock drilling conditions where peak torque spikes are higher, the hex base reduces stress concentration at each engagement point vs a four-sided square base.
• OEM PM-HX-3 geometry is calibrated to the RC4 taper tooth head design — the relative pilot extension and tip geometry are designed to work with the RC4's B7 taper teeth. Pilots with incorrect extension geometry change the depth relationship between pilot contact and tooth engagement, affecting hole quality.
