The Haugen MHP Handyman Work Platform is a telehandler work platform for fork-mounted personnel lifting and rough terrain forklifts, available in 4'x4' (MHP 4x4, 395 lbs) and 4'x6' (MHP 4x6, 487 lbs) platform sizes, each rated for a maximum capacity of 1,000 lbs of personnel and material combined. Built to meet and exceed ANSI/ITSDF B56.6-2016 and CSA B335 safety standards — the same standards required by OSHA for rough terrain work platforms. Collapsible guardrails assemble without tools in minutes, spring-loaded self-latching doors provide secure entry, and safety restraint tie-down points are welded to the base and rated for 3,600 lbs each. A 60" high-back protects occupants on mast-style forklifts. Standard fork pocket size is 2.75" x 7.75" with 30" center-to-center spacing. Made in the USA with a 1-year warranty.

The Haugen MHP Handyman Platform uses a fork slot mounting system — insert the fork tines fully into the platform's fork pockets (2.75" x 7.75" standard, 30" center spacing), then install the steel locking pin behind the heel of each fork tine using the hitch pin to secure it. Both fork pockets must be used; the platform must be centered on the carriage. Tilt cylinders or swing cylinders on telehandler carriages must be disabled before use. Do not use the shipping/transport pockets (end pockets) for lifting personnel — fork pockets only.
Designed for telehandlers, rough terrain forklifts, and standard forklifts equipped with fork carriage. Standard fork pocket size 3-1/2" x 7-1/2" (custom sizes available on request). Compatible with:
| JLG | Genie | Manitou | Skytrak |
| Caterpillar | John Deere |
Compatibility is determined by fork size and capacity, not brand — verify your machine's rated capacity before use. Never exceed the capacity of either the jib or the host machine.

Q: What is the maximum safe platform capacity, and how does the 1/3 rule work?
The platform itself is rated for 1,000 lbs of combined personnel and material. However, OSHA and ANSI standards require that the combined weight of the platform and its load (personnel + material) must not exceed 1/3 of the host machine's rated lift capacity at the relevant load position. For example: if your telehandler is rated at 6,000 lbs at the load center, the maximum allowed combined platform + load weight is 6,000 ÷ 3 = 2,000 lbs. Since the MHP 4x6 weighs 487 lbs empty, maximum load in that scenario would be 2,000 - 487 = 1,513 lbs, capped at the platform's 1,000 lb maximum. |
|
Q: Can the platform be driven with personnel in it?
No — this is a critical safety requirement. The operator must lower the platform fully to grade before personnel enter or exit. Once elevated, the machine must be set in neutral with the parking brake engaged. The operator must remain at the controls at all times while personnel are elevated, but the machine must not be driven with anyone in the platform. |
|
Q: Do OSHA lanyards need to be used in this platform?
Yes — all occupants must wear OSHA-approved safety lanyards attached to the Safety Restraint Tie-Down points on the back of the platform. There is one tie-down per person; do not attach more than one person to each tie-down. This is an OSHA compliance requirement and a standard operating procedure for all aerial work platform use. |
|
Q: What is the minimum host machine capacity required for the MHP 4x6?
For vertical mast forklifts: the host machine must have a rated capacity of at least 2 x (1,000 + 487) = 2,974 lbs at the load center with the MHP 4x6 attached. For telescopic boom (telehandler) machines: at least 3 x (1,000 + 487) = 4,461 lbs is required. Always reference the specific load chart for your machine and contact Haugen (877-580-6218) if you need a certified down-rated load chart for a specific telehandler model. |
|
Q: Why is the MHP 4x4 vs MHP 4x6 choice important?
Both models are rated for a maximum of 2 people and 1,000 lbs combined capacity. The 4x4 at 395 lbs is better suited to smaller machines with tighter capacity ratings. The 4x6 at 487 lbs provides more working space for two-person jobs requiring tools and materials. The 4x4 is also the better choice when minimum host machine load bearing width is a constraint — Haugen requires a minimum 52" load bearing width for the 4x6. |
|
Q: Is a certified load chart available for my specific telehandler?
Haugen provides down-rated load charts certified by a Professional Engineer for specific machine and platform combinations. If your telehandler manufacturer does not supply a work platform load chart but allows platform use, contact Haugen Attachments at 877-580-6218 to request a certified chart for your specific machine. A copy of Haugen's complete PE engineering certification is also available on request. |
