The Star Industries Skid Steer Grapple Bucket is available in two series: Heavy Duty (175-66, 175-72) with 38-1/2"" grapple opening, and Demolition Grade (175DG-72, 175DG-78, 175DG-84) with a wider 45"" grapple opening for handling larger debris loads. Both feature independently controlled hydraulic cylinders that adjust for uneven loads, steel covers and shields protecting all hydraulic lines and cylinders, and cutting edges punched for optional bolt-on blades. The solid bucket bottom retains all material including loose fines — ideal when you need to keep what you grab. Star Industries backs every attachment with a 5-year factory guarantee — USA made since 1981.

Universal Quick Attach (SSQA). Requires 2 auxiliary hydraulic circuits for independent arm control. Verify your machine's aux hydraulic flow (GPM) and pressure (PSI) are within the grapple's rated operating range. Machine rated operating capacity governs max load — grapple weight plus load must not exceed ROC.
Compatible with skid steer loaders and compact track loaders with a Universal Quick Attach (SSQA) system:
| Bobcat | Caterpillar | John Deere | Case |
| New Holland | Takeuchi | Kubota | Gehl |
Requires 2 aux hydraulic circuits for independent grapple arm control. Confirm machine aux hydraulic capability before ordering.

Q: When should I choose Heavy Duty vs Demolition Grade?
Heavy Duty (175-66, 175-72): 38-1/2"" grapple opening — ideal for general land clearing, brush and tree debris, aggregate material, and mixed construction waste where loads are typically under 38"" in their smallest dimension. Demolition Grade (175DG series): 45"" grapple opening — necessary for full-size demolition debris including lumber, drywall sheets, door frames, concrete slabs, and structural members that regularly exceed 38"". If your work involves any significant amount of building demolition, renovation tearout, or large structural debris, the DG series is the appropriate choice. |
|
Q: What does independent cylinder control mean and why does it matter?
Standard grapple buckets run both grapple arms from a single hydraulic circuit — both arms apply equal force simultaneously and move together. Independent cylinder control means each arm has its own hydraulic circuit and can be extended or retracted separately. This allows one arm to close further than the other, which is essential for gripping asymmetric loads (logs at an angle, L-shaped debris, partially buried material) that would be dropped or poorly gripped by a synchronized dual-arm grapple. |
|
Q: What is the difference between the grapple bucket and the root grapple (170 series)?
The grapple bucket (175 series) has a solid metal bottom — it retains all material including sand, gravel, loose debris, and particulate material. The root grapple (170 series) has open tines with gaps that allow soil and fine material to sift through while retaining bulk material like rocks, logs, and large debris. Choose the 175 grapple bucket when you need to retain mixed fine and coarse material. Choose the 170 root grapple when you want to separate debris from soil. |
|
Q: Are end plates and bolt-on cutting edges standard or optional?
Both end plates and bolt-on cutting edges are optional and priced separately — call eSkidSteer at 866-757-8337 for pricing. End plates attach to the open ends of the grapple bucket to help contain loose material that might otherwise fall out the sides. Bolt-on cutting edges are available for the punched cutting edge on the bucket bottom, adding wear protection and improving digging ability when the grapple is used with the arms open as a standard bucket. |
|
Q: How many aux hydraulic circuits does this grapple require?
Two auxiliary hydraulic circuits are required for independent arm control — one circuit per grapple arm. All full-size skid steers with standard auxiliary hydraulic capability provide two aux circuits. Confirm your machine has two separate aux circuits (not just one) before ordering. Some older or compact machines have a single aux circuit only; these cannot operate independent-arm grapples. |
