The Haugen MLSBS-CR Large Square Bale Spear uses cold-rolled steel tines on a 60" wide heavy-duty frame for handling the largest square bales. The frame carries four tines: two 42" inner tines and two 34" outer tines — the combination allows the longer inner tines to penetrate first and align the bale while the shorter outer tines provide lateral stability. Select the MLSBS-CR-34 (34" tines only, two tines) or MLSBS-CR-42 (42" tines, two tines) variant based on your bale size and tractor capability. All tines are replaceable. Built-in step for cab access. Compatible with optional high-back extensions (factory or DIY). Universal Quick Attach. Made in USA.

Universal Quick Attach — compatible with all standard skid steer loaders and compact track loaders. This is a large bale spear designed for full-size skid steers with adequate lift capacity for large square bales (typically 1,000–2,000 lbs per bale depending on crop and moisture). Always confirm your machine's rated lifting capacity against your expected bale weight before operating.
Compatible with skid steer loaders and compact track loaders with Universal Quick Attach:
| Bobcat | Caterpillar | John Deere | Case |
| New Holland | Takeuchi | Kubota | Gehl |
Requires two auxiliary hydraulic circuits. Check your machine's rated operating capacity against the attachment weight before operating.

Q: Which variant should I choose — MLSBS-CR-34 or MLSBS-CR-42?
Choose based on your bale size and the penetration depth needed. The 42" tines (MLSBS-CR-42) provide more penetration depth and a longer hold on large 4-foot-wide bales, which helps with transport stability. The 34" tines (MLSBS-CR-34) are sufficient for narrower large square bales or where machine lift capacity means shorter tine length reduces tip weight at maximum extension. Contact Haugen at 877-580-6218 with your bale dimensions for a specific recommendation. |

Q: What is the difference between cold-rolled tines and forged (Conus) tines?
The MLSBS-CR uses cold-rolled 1045 steel tines. Cold rolling increases hardness and yield strength compared to hot-rolled tines. The MLSBS-C2 and other Haugen large square bale spears use forged German-made Conus tines, which are forged to final shape for maximum grain flow and fatigue resistance. Forged Conus tines are generally considered premium for the heaviest applications, while cold-rolled 1045 tines provide excellent durability at a lower cost basis. |
|
Q: What are the optional high-back extensions for?
High-back extensions add height to the frame above the top of the tines. This prevents large bales from rolling over the top of the frame during aggressive transport on rough terrain, and allows stacking bales more securely. The MLSBS-CR frame has factory-ready openings that accept either Haugen factory high-back extensions or field-fabricated extensions. The MLSBS-HB variant comes with heavy high-back extensions pre-installed (90" total height, 700 lbs). |
|
Q: Can this handle 3×4 and 4×4 large square bales?
Yes — the 60" frame width and tine penetration depth on both CR variants are designed for large square bale work including 3×3, 3×4, and 4×4 formats. For 4×4 bales (which can weigh 1,500–2,000+ lbs at high moisture), verify your skid steer's rated lift capacity at the load center at which the bale will be carried. |
|
Q: Are the MLSBS-CR-34 and MLSBS-CR-42 the same frame?
Yes — both variants use the same 60" wide frame. The difference is the tine length installed. Both have two tines per spear (not four tines as on the full CR configuration described in some sources — confirm with Haugen whether each SKU ships with two or four tines, as the full assembly typically uses both lengths together). |
