Haugen MFE fork extensions add reach to existing forklift or telehandler tines — the simplest way to handle loads that exceed your machine's standard tine length. Available in four lengths (72"/6 ft, 90"/7.5 ft, 96"/8 ft, 108"/9 ft) and four cross-section sizes (2.5"×5", 3"×6", 3"×7", 4"×8" heavy), yielding 14 SKUs. Full-tube construction (not open-bottom) maximizes rigidity. A 45-degree bevel on the tip allows easy entry into pallets. Extensions pin onto existing tines and are rated per pair. The 4"×8" heavy models (MFE 848-H and MFE 948-H) are available at 8 ft and 9 ft for large-tine heavy-duty applications. Made in USA with a 1-year warranty.

Match the extension cross-section to your host tine dimensions — the extension must slide over the tine with slight clearance. Each extension table specifies maximum host tine dimensions. Minimum host tine lengths are: 72" extensions → 48" host tines; 90" extensions → 60"; 96" extensions → 64" (approx.); 108" extensions → 72". OSHA guideline: fork extensions should not exceed 150% of the host tine length.
Fits telehandlers, forklifts, and lift trucks with matching fork tine cross-sections. Verify your host tine dimensions match the extension's capacity chart before ordering. Compatible brands include:
| JLG | Genie | Manitou | Skytrak |
| Caterpillar | John Deere |
OSHA guideline: Extensions should not exceed 150% of host tine length. 72" extension requires minimum 48" host tines; 90" requires 60"; 96" requires 64"; 108" requires 72".

Q: How do I choose the right cross-section?
The extension cross-section must be slightly larger than your host tine dimensions to slide over them. For 2"×4" host tines → use the 2.5"×5" extension. For 2.5"×5" host tines → use the 3"×6" extension. For 2.5"×6" tines → use the 3"×7" extension. For 3.5"×7.5" tines (large telehandlers) → use the 4"×8" Heavy (H) models. Never use an extension where the host tine dimensions equal or exceed the extension interior dimensions. |
|
Q: What does "capacity rated per pair" mean?
The capacity ratings listed are for a matched pair of extensions installed together on a two-tine fork frame. Do not use only one extension on one tine — always use a matched pair installed symmetrically to ensure balanced loading. The capacity also assumes the load is properly centered on the tines. |
|
Q: What is the OSHA rule on extension length?
OSHA guidelines state that fork extensions should not exceed 150% of the host fork tine length. Example: if your machine has 48" host tines, the extension should not exceed 72" total. If your host tines are 60", you can use up to 90" extensions. Exceeding this ratio places excessive stress on the host tines and the extension-tine connection pin. |
|
Q: What is the difference between full-tube and open-bottom extensions?
Full-tube extensions are closed on all four sides — the bottom side is a continuous steel tube wall. Open-bottom extensions have the underside open (like a C-channel), which reduces material cost but also reduces torsional and bending rigidity. Under asymmetric loading (where the load is not perfectly centered), open-bottom extensions flex more, increasing stress on the pin connection. Haugen's MFE extensions are full-tube. |
|
Q: Can I use the 4"×8" Heavy (H) models on a standard forklift?
The H models are designed for machines with large tines — 3.5"×7.5" cross-section, which is typical on high-capacity telehandlers and industrial forklifts rated at 8,000+ lbs. On standard forklifts with 2.5"×5" or 2.5"×6" tines, the 4"×8" extension interior would have too much clearance and would not be secure. Use the 3"×7" model for those machines. |
