Haugen's skid steer trencher attachment is available in 36" and 48" digging depths, 6" and 8" trench widths, and three chain styles matched to soil type: Earth Chain (standard soil), Combo Chain (mixed conditions), and Rock & Frost (hard ground). Comes with hose kit and manual side-shift Universal Skid Steer mount as standard. Optional hydraulic side-shift and hydraulic mount available. Models span four hydraulic drive sizes (HXR-14 through HXR-35) to match your machine's GPM output. Made in USA with a 1-year warranty.

Match the trencher's HXR drive size to your machine's actual auxiliary hydraulic GPM output. Check your skid steer's spec sheet for aux flow (not total pump flow). If using a high-flow machine (25+ GPM), select HXR-25 or HXR-35 and order the appropriate high-flow hose kit — call Haugen at 877-580-6218 for high-flow kit details.
Compatible with skid steer loaders and compact track loaders with Universal Quick Attach:
| Bobcat | Caterpillar | John Deere | Case |
| New Holland | Takeuchi | Kubota | Gehl |
Verify auxiliary hydraulic flow rate (GPM) and back-pressure requirements match your machine's aux circuit capabilities before operating.

Q: What chain style should I choose for my conditions?
Earth Chain: use in loose to firm, non-rocky soil — soft loam, clay, sandy soil without large rocks. Best speed and chain life in ideal conditions. Combo Chain: alternating cupped teeth for mixed conditions — use when soil has moderate rock content, roots, or variable hardness. A good general-purpose choice when conditions are uncertain. Rock & Frost ABF: use in hard frozen ground, heavy rock content, caliche, or hard clay. The alternating cupped and rock-frost teeth are designed for impact against hard material. Using R&F in soft soil wastes wear rate potential — it is slower in soft soil than the Earth chain. |

Q: How do I know which HXR drive size to order?
Check your skid steer's spec sheet for "auxiliary hydraulic flow" in GPM. This is not the total pump flow but the aux circuit output. HXR-14: 10-15 GPM (most compact and mid-size standard-flow machines). HXR-21: 16-20 GPM (standard and high-standard flow). HXR-25: 19-25 GPM (high-standard flow). HXR-35: 25-40+ GPM (high-flow machines like Bobcat S770 HF, Cat 262, etc.). Running a too-large HXR on a low-flow machine will underpower the trencher. Running a too-small HXR on a high-flow machine risks over-revving the chain drive motor. |
|
Q: What is the difference between the standard (manual) side-shift and hydraulic side-shift mount?
Manual side-shift: the trencher arm can be shifted laterally by repositioning a pin — requires stopping and dismounting to shift position, or operator repositions the whole machine. Hydraulic side-shift (H57-unihyd): the trencher arm shifts laterally from a second hydraulic circuit controlled from the cab without stopping. Hydraulic side-shift is essential for straight-line trenching alongside obstacles (curbs, walls, foundations) where repositioning the machine would break the trench line. |
|
Q: What is the maximum depth I can trench?
The Haugen HT series goes to 48" (4 feet) maximum depth with the HT-48 series. This covers most residential and commercial utility trenching (water, electric, gas, irrigation). For deeper trenching (5-6 ft), the HXR-21, HXR-25, and HXR-35 drives are also available in 5-foot depth variants — contact Haugen at 877-580-6218. |
|
Q: What does "Combo Chain (E)" mean in the workbook SKU?
The workbook uses "E" to designate the Combo Chain style and "C" for Earth Chain, and "RF" for Rock & Frost. This is internal SKU notation. "Combo Chain" uses alternating cupped teeth for mixed conditions; "Earth Chain" uses cupped teeth optimized for standard soil; "Rock & Frost ABF" uses alternating cupped and specialized rock-frost teeth for hard ground. |
