Running an Earth chain in frost or caliche destroys the chain rapidly. Haugen's three chain styles allow matching the chain's tooth geometry to the actual ground conditions, maximizing both digging speed and chain service life.
- Four drive sizes ensure the trencher is matched to your skid steer's hydraulic output — a trencher rated for 25-40 GPM running on a standard-flow machine (17-20 GPM) will be underpowered and stall. The HXR-14 through HXR-35 series spans the full range of skid steer aux flow outputs, so the trencher can be precisely matched to the host machine's actual output.
- Optional hydraulic side-shift (H57-unihyd) enables trench positioning from the cab — with manual side-shift, the operator repositions the trench line by repositioning the entire machine. Hydraulic side-shift moves the trencher boom laterally from the cab, allowing the trench line to track a straight line without machine repositioning, which is critical for accurate utility trenching alongside buildings, curbs, or existing structures.
- 48" depth covers the trench depth requirements for most utility and irrigation work — code depth for electrical conduit is typically 24"; for water lines, 12" in frost-free zones and up to 48" in cold climates; for gas lines, 18-24".
