    📘 Overview

The EZ Spot UR Heavy Duty Pole Setter (EZ-HD08) sets and pulls utility poles up to 45 feet and 2,500 lb, Class 1 — work that otherwise needs a digger derrick, a crane or slings. Nicknamed Big Bertha, it is a stand-alone unit: two large clamp cylinders on its own integrated base rotate the tool head 120 degrees to the operator’s left, so a pole is picked off the ground or a trailer and brought to vertical without a separate rotating base. Two jaws close independently and in sequence for safety, on rubber lining that protects any pole type, and a backing plate carries the pole above the machine to steady it in transit. Choose Medium Jaw Inserts or Large Upper Jaw Inserts to close the jaws down to 0 for smaller stock, then match the wiring harness to your machine.

⚙ Key Features of the Heavy Duty Pole Setter

    • Rated for a 45-foot, 2,500 lb Class 1 pole — the largest capacity in the EZ Spot UR pole-setting range.
    • Goes where a digger derrick cannot — a skid steer footprint reaches back lots, easements and rough ground closed to a boom truck.
    • Two 3" x 6" clamp cylinders with check valves, each 21,208 lb breakout, so the clamp will not release if a hydraulic line breaks.
    • Sequencing independent jaws close one after the other, so the pole is captured before it can roll.
    • Backing plate carries the pole above the machine, reducing pole movement during transport.
    • Built from ½ inch Grade 80 material or higher.
    • Rubber-lined jaws as standard for use on any pole type without marking it.
    • Ships complete with hoses, flush-faced couplers, spring hose mount and wiring harness.

🔑 Why Operators Choose the Heavy Duty Pole Setter

    • Replaces a derrick on the right jobs — loading, unloading, pulling and setting 45-foot poles without cranes or slings, on a machine most crews already own.
    • One operator, from the cab — sequencing jaws and 120 degrees of rotation mean nobody stands under a suspended pole.
    • Check valves are the safety argument — a broken hydraulic line will not open the clamp on a raised pole.
    • Sets a pole plumb — the backing plate and sequencing jaws hold alignment while backfill goes in.
    • Works finished and treated poles alike thanks to rubber jaw lining.

📋 Configuring Your Heavy Duty Pole Setter

    • Jaw InsertsNo Jaw Inserts leaves the standard 5" minimum; Medium Jaw Inserts and Large Upper Jaw Inserts close the jaws down to 0 so smaller poles, posts and pipe are gripped securely.
    • Wiring Harness — nine options, described below.

Every EZ Spot UR rotating attachment needs a wiring harness to switch the base from the machine's auxiliary circuit. Nine options are offered so the harness matches your machine: Universal Skid Steer Wiring Harness for most standard machines; 14 Pin Wire Harness for Cat, Bobcat, Kubota, John Deere, Case, New Holland and Takeuchi machines with a 14-pin connector; 8 Pin Caterpillar/ASV/TEREX Harness for those three brands; Single Pole 7 Pin Bobcat Electrical Harness for 7-pin Bobcat machines; 7 Pin Intermediate Harness and Intermediate Tool Wiring Harness where a tool-side intermediate lead is needed between the machine harness and the attachment; Cigarette Plug In Universal Wiring Harness where no auxiliary electrical connector is fitted and power is taken from the cab accessory socket; Radio Remote Assembly for Telehandlers for telehandler installations run without a cab harness; and None if you already hold a working harness for this machine.

🚜 Which Machines Take This Pole Setter?

The Heavy Duty Pole Setter attaches to skid steer loaders and compact track loaders equipped with a Universal Quick Attach (SSQA) system, including:

    BobcatCaterpillarJohn DeereCaseNew HollandTakeuchiKubotaGehl

The machine must supply 20–30 GPM at 3,000 psi through an auxiliary circuit with ¾" flush-face couplings, plus an electrical connection for the harness. EZ Spot UR recommends a machine with a rated operating capacity of at least 2,500 lb. Your usable capacity is that rating minus the 1,400 lb weight of the attachment. The Heavy Duty Pole Setter can also be adapted to excavators, wheel loaders, telehandlers and backhoes with a specialty bolt-on mount.

Compatibility is determined by mount type, not brand — confirm your machine’s quick attach configuration and auxiliary hydraulic flow before ordering. Everything needed to confirm fitment is on this page — add it to your cart to check delivered pricing for your address.

Freight note: inspect the crate before signing the carrier’s Bill of Lading. Note any damage on the delivery paperwork at the time of delivery — that record is what supports a carrier claim.

❓ Heavy Duty Pole Setter Questions, Answered

What size machine do I need for the Heavy Duty Pole Setter?

EZ Spot UR recommends a machine with a rated operating capacity of at least 2,500 lb. The Heavy Duty Pole Setter weighs 1,400 lb, and your usable load is the machine's rated operating capacity minus the weight of the attachment, up to the attachment's own 2,500 lb rating.

How does the Heavy Duty Pole Setter compare to a digger derrick?

The Heavy Duty Pole Setter does the loading, unloading, pulling and setting of 45-foot poles without cranes or slings, on a skid steer rather than a boom truck. That means it reaches back lots, easements and soft or confined ground a derrick cannot work from. A derrick still has the advantage on reach and on augering.

Do I need the jaw inserts?

Only for smaller stock. Without inserts the Heavy Duty Pole Setter jaws close to 5 inches. Medium Jaw Inserts and Large Upper Jaw Inserts take the close-down to 0 inches, which is what grips small poles, posts and pipe.

What happens if a hydraulic line breaks while a pole is raised?

The Heavy Duty Pole Setter clamp cylinders are fitted with check valves specifically for this. If a line breaks, the clamp will not open, so the pole stays held.

Can the Heavy Duty Pole Setter pull poles as well as set them?

Yes. EZ Spot UR rates it for loading, unloading, pulling and setting 45-foot utility poles using the same sequencing jaw grip.

Which wiring harness do I need?

Match the harness to your machine's auxiliary electrical connector, not to the attachment. Choose the 14 Pin Wire Harness for a Cat, Bobcat, Kubota, John Deere, Case, New Holland or Takeuchi machine with a 14-pin connector, the 8 Pin Caterpillar/ASV/TEREX Harness for those brands, or the Single Pole 7 Pin Bobcat Electrical Harness for a 7-pin Bobcat. If your machine has no auxiliary electrical connector, the Cigarette Plug In Universal Wiring Harness powers the attachment from the cab accessory socket. The Universal Skid Steer Wiring Harness suits most other machines, the 7 Pin Intermediate Harness and Intermediate Tool Wiring Harness add a tool-side lead, and the Radio Remote Assembly for Telehandlers covers telehandler installs. Select None if you already own one.

What hydraulic flow does the Heavy Duty Pole Setter need?

The Heavy Duty Pole Setter runs on 20–30 GPM at 3,000 psi through a standard auxiliary circuit with ¾" flush-face couplings rated to a 15 ksi burst pressure. A high-flow machine is not required.

How is the Heavy Duty Pole Setter shipped?

Shipping is calculated at checkout — add the Heavy Duty Pole Setter to your cart, enter your delivery address, and the freight charge is displayed before you complete the order. Lift gate service is available for residential deliveries and can be selected at checkout.
