    📘 Overview

The Top Dog skid steer grapple bucket is a heavy duty low profile bucket with a hydraulic grapple, built for digging and grading dirt and gravel while still being able to clamp and carry a load. The low profile is the point: a longer bucket bottom gives better cutting-edge versatility than a conventional deep bucket, so it grades as well as it loads. Six widths run 60" to 84" sharing a 35-1/2" grapple opening, 34" bucket depth and a 3/4" x 6" cutting edge, with struck capacity from 13.2 to 18.5 cu ft. Grapple arms are 1/2" laser-cut Grade 50 on 2" x 8" welded cylinders.

Buyers comparing a grapple bucket for skid steer work against a plain bucket are usually weighing one question: how often does the load fall off. A grapple bucket attachment costs more and needs hydraulics, but it carries pipe, brush and debris that a bucket simply spills. Among heavy duty grapple bucket for skid steer options the low profile shape is the one that also grades, which a deep bucket does poorly. The same tool works as a grapple bucket for tractor loaders with a universal quick attach coupler, and a skid loader grapple bucket by any other name is the same attachment.

⚙ Key Features of the Top Dog Attachments Low Profile Grapple Bucket

    • Low profile with a longer bucket bottom — the extended floor puts more cutting edge in contact with the ground — it grades where a deep bucket only digs.
    • 1/2" Grade 50 laser-cut grapple arms — laser cutting gives a clean edge with no heat-affected zone; Grade 50 resists bending under clamp load.
    • 35-1/2" grapple opening — wide enough to clamp brush, pipe or debris on top of a bucket load.
    • 3/4" x 6" cutting edge — a heavy edge for a grapple bucket — this is a digging tool, not just a carrier.
    • 1/2" Grade 50 wear bars, 10" wide — the underside wear surface is exceptionally wide, which is what low profile buckets need.
    • 2" x 8" welded cylinders on grease-zerked pivots — welded cylinders and greasable pivots for a tool that cycles constantly.
    • Six widths, 60" to 84" — 827 lbs to 972 lbs empty, with struck capacity from 13.2 to 18.5 cu ft.
    • Flat face couplers at 3,000 PSI max — flat face couplers connect cleanly and resist contamination.

🔑 Why Choose the Low Profile Grapple Bucket?

    • Digs, grades and clamps with one tool — the long low floor grades, the 3/4" edge digs and the grapple carries — three jobs without changing attachments.
    • Secures loads a plain bucket spills — the grapple holds pipe, brush and awkward material on top of a bucket load that would otherwise fall off in transit.
    • Wear concentrated in the right place — 10" wide 1/2" Grade 50 wear bars take the ground contact that a low profile bucket sees constantly.
    • Serviceable where it matters — grease zerks on every pivot and welded cylinders mean the wear points are maintainable rather than sealed.

🔗 What Is a Skid Steer Grapple Bucket Used For?

    • Digging and grading dirt and gravel
    • Carrying loads that need clamping to stay put
    • Handling pipe, brush and awkward material
    • Site cleanup and demolition work
    • General loading where a grapple prevents spillage

If your machine is rated under 2,000 lbs lift, the lighter 72" utility grapple is the more appropriate choice — it gives the same capability at 783 lbs.

🚜 Which Machines Fit the Low Profile Grapple Bucket?

Available for two machine classes — the Low Profile Grapple Bucket uses a single universal quick attach plate that serves both:

Skid steers and compact track loaders — fits machines with a Universal Quick Attach (SSQA) mount, including:

    BobcatCaterpillarJohn DeereCaseNew HollandTakeuchiKubotaGehl

Compact tractor front-end loaders — fits tractor loaders fitted with a skid-steer-style universal quick attach coupler. Loaders using Euro/Global or John Deere 400/500 mounts require the matching Top Dog adapter plate (Euro 90133219, Euro 2-piece 90133229, JD flat 9033199, JD offset 90133228).

Hydraulic requirement: The grapple arms run on 2" x 8" welded cylinders at up to 3,000 PSI and require an auxiliary hydraulic circuit on the host machine.

Compatibility is determined by mount type, not brand — confirm your machine’s quick attach configuration before ordering.

❓ Low Profile Grapple Bucket Questions, Answered

What is the difference between a grapple bucket and a brush grapple?

A grapple bucket has a solid floor, so it carries loose material like dirt and gravel as well as clamping bulk items. A brush grapple has open sidewalls and tines, so it holds brush and long material but lets fines fall through. Choose the Top Dog low profile grapple bucket when you need to dig and carry loose material with the security of a grapple.

What does "low profile" mean on a grapple bucket?

The Top Dog low profile grapple bucket has a longer bucket bottom and lower overall height than a conventional bucket — 28-1/2" closed. That puts more cutting edge in contact with the ground, which improves grading performance and gives the operator a better view of the edge.

How wide does the grapple open?

The grapple opening on the Top Dog low profile grapple bucket is 35-1/2" across all six widths, with overall height rising from 28-1/2" closed to 41-1/2" open.

What size grapple bucket should I choose?

Match the width to your machine’s rated operating capacity. The Top Dog grapple bucket runs 827 lbs empty at 60" with 13.2 cu ft struck, up to 972 lbs at 84" with 18.5 cu ft struck. A full bucket of dense material plus the attachment weight is what your loader has to carry.

Does the grapple bucket require auxiliary hydraulics?

Yes. The grapple arms run on 2" x 8" welded cylinders at up to 3,000 PSI and require an auxiliary hydraulic circuit on the host machine. Flat face couplers are fitted.

    Are the pivot points greasable?

Yes. All pivot points on the Top Dog low profile grapple bucket have grease zerks, so the highest-wear joints can be maintained rather than replaced.

Can the grapple bucket be used for grading?

Yes — that is what the low profile design is for. The longer bucket bottom and 3/4" x 6" cutting edge give better grading performance than a conventional deep bucket, which tends to gouge rather than level.

Will the grapple bucket fit a tractor loader?

Yes, where the tractor front-end loader is fitted with a skid-steer-style universal quick attach coupler and has an auxiliary hydraulic circuit. Loaders using Euro/Global or John Deere 400/500 mounts require the corresponding Top Dog adapter plate.

What is the difference between struck and heaped capacity?

Struck capacity is what the bucket holds level with its edges; heaped is what it holds with material mounded above them. The Top Dog 60" grapple bucket holds 13.2 cu ft struck and 15.8 cu ft heaped. Use struck for dense material like wet soil and heaped for light bulky loads.

Can the grapple hold material on top of a full bucket?

Yes — that is the main reason to choose a grapple bucket. The 35-1/2" opening clamps over a loaded bucket to hold pipe, brush or timber that would otherwise slide off in transit.
