Star Industries Fork Extensions slip onto existing forklift forks to extend reach for bulky and oversized loads. Available in three widths: Model 1664 (for 4" × 48" forks, 72" OAL, 120 lbs/set), Model 1665 (for 5" × 48" forks, 72" OAL, 140 lbs/set), and Model 1666 (for 6" × 48" forks, 72" OAL, 160 lbs/set). Install and remove in seconds with the locking pin. Important: extension OAL must not exceed 150% of existing fork length; inside width must not exceed 1/2" wider than the fork. 5-year factory guarantee. USA since 1981.

Forklift capacity is substantially reduced when the load center moves beyond the standard 24" load center. Consult your forklift's load capacity chart at the extended load center before picking any load with fork extensions installed. Match extension width to existing fork width — inside width must not exceed fork width + 1/2".
Compatible with forklifts and telehandlers — slides onto standard fork tines:
| Toyota | Crown | Hyster | Yale |
| Cat | Clark | JLG | SkyTrak |
Extensions reduce forklift capacity when load center exceeds 24". Consult machine load capacity chart before any lift with extensions installed.

Q: What is the 150% rule for fork extensions?
The 150% rule (ASME B56.1) states that the overall length of a fork extension must not exceed 150% of the length of the fork being extended. For 48" forks, maximum extension OAL = 72" (48" × 150% = 72"). The Star extensions are all 72" OAL, which exactly matches the maximum safe extension for 48" forks. |
|
Q: How much does capacity decrease with extensions?
Forklift load capacity is rated at a standard 24" load center (center of load is 24" from the fork face). When extensions push the load center beyond 24" (which longer extensions almost always do for longer loads), the forklift must be de-rated. Consult your forklift manufacturer's load capacity chart for the specific load center distance used with your extension. |
|
Q: Can I use extensions on any forklift?
Extensions must match the fork dimensions. The inside width of the extension must not exceed the existing fork width by more than 1/2". Select 1664 for 4" wide forks, 1665 for 5" wide forks, or 1666 for 6" wide forks. Never use an extension that is loose or oversized on the fork. |
|
Q: Do I need to remove extensions between loads?
Extensions should be removed when not needed for a specific load to restore the forklift's full rated capacity and maneuverability. Because they install and remove in seconds, there is no reason to leave them installed permanently unless all loads handled by that machine require the extension. |
|
Q: What loads are extensions NOT appropriate for?
Never pick up a load using only the tips of the extensions — the load must be centered on the extension body or closer to the backstop. Do not use extensions for loads that are too heavy when accounting for the reduced de-rated capacity at the actual load center. Extensions are not appropriate for precision placement tasks where additional fork length reduces visibility and control. |
